Origin Costa Rica

Growing environment and farming system  Tropical forest ecosystem, charecterised by high levels of moisture and rich organic matter soil, biodiversity is high with multiple species from forest floor to canopy tree level.  Demeter Biodynamic farming surpasses Organic farming practice with high productivity.

Journey to Skin  Processed using the traditional Bourbon method; Rosa de Rose vanilla is a super ingredient as vanilla pods mature over a full nine months (after pollination) before curing. Eliminating immature beans, we only use beans that are harvested one by one (and not in bunches as is sometimes practiced), with curing commencing within a week of harvest.  Given the direct relationship between potency with size and appearance, we will obtain our ingredient from grade 1 beans only which measure 15 cm and above.  The result?  Contains a fuller spectrum of raw vanilla with 26% vanillin for enhanced skin benefits in our master formula. Following the CO2 extraction process, we obtain a dense extract in pure undiluted form prior to formulation. Technically, there is no essential oil.  C02 extraction delivers a supremely potent extract that blends perfectly with our formula.  As part of the process, we gently warm bottles to dissolve the natural vanilla crystals before dispensing in our batch Rosa de Rose production.

VANILLA
Uniquely farmed using Biodynamic principles.

Less than 1% of the world's vanilla flavour comes from real beans, the vast majority of synthetic vanillin comes from petrochemicals. It can be 20 times cheaper than the real thing.  Our extract contains 26% vanillin.

TAMANU
Tamanu oil is extracted from a tropical tree up that grows up to 20 metres in height and 2 metres in diameter.

Calophyllum inophyllum

Plant part Fruit seeds

Method of Extraction Expressed (cold pressed)

Experience Healing, enriching and tropical.

Skin correction  Soothing, clarifying and improves the appearance of your skin, a traditional remedy used throughout Oceania to treat wounds, the wonder oil that promotes new tissue growth and healthy skin, providing real benefits for inflammatory skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis.

Origin Madagascar

Growing environment and farming system  Coastal tropical climate close to village areas, the trees grow tall and the foliage is lush, wildcraft harvest by local women, mainly from trees at the forest edge close to the beach.

With demand increasing, plantations are now seen as a viable option for Tamanu growth and harvesting. All Rosa de Rose Tamanu is grown in coastal and low altitude areas from wild trees. The harvest is taken from where the trees thrive close to salty, sandy beaches of the tropical islands throughout the Pacific.  Using the much sought after Tamanu fruit, the nuts are extracted for production of our oil and cultivation is kept to a minimum as the trees grow naturally with local families that harvest the fruits. The harvest supports the local community and coastal villagers.  The fruit is carefully hand picked, typically by the local women who also hand crack the nuts ready for processing in order to extract the almonds. Our Tamanu is then exposed to the sun for 6 to 8 weeks during which time they gradually fill up with oil. We ensures not to rush this process by processing after 4 weeks as is sometimes practiced. Our Tamanu oil is then extracted by cold pressing using only the finest quality nuts, resulting in superior oil with a greenish colour and a strong walnut scent (reminding us of olive oil).  The nuts contain a very high oil content (approximately 50%).

Experience hydrating, regenerating, euphoric

Working in synergy with our other regenerative ingredients, Neroli also possesses antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce breakouts and treat pimples.

Origin Morocco

Growing environment and farming system  Hilly grasslands and some semi-arid areas.  Temperate climate with diverse crop and medicinal produce, highly productive traditional organic agroforestry farming.

Native to China, the Citrus aurantium amara (bitter orange tree) is treasured for the sweet scent of its white flowers clustered in the leaf axils.  The tree was imported into the Mediterranean region in the 9th century and Morocco is now the second largest producer after Tunisia.  We favour the Moroccan variety because it represents the classic Neroli – fresh, sharp and bold, with equally potent compound activity.  It feels heavier and fresher than it’s earthy Egyptian variety, while being stronger than it’s more delicate Tunisian neighbour.  French neroli is beautiful and sits somewhere between the Tunisian and Moroccan varieties, although lacking the boldness and longetivity we desire for Rosa de Rose.  Our Neroli is not obtained through plantation systems, as was previously popular in the Vallauris Golde-Juan region.   It is obtained from trees that share their habitat with almond, olive trees and native wildlife, growing across agroforesty farm areas that receive regular exposure to warm sunny conditions with some rainfall.   After plucking from inside green citrus foliage, the heavenly scent lingers.  The first flowers are not suitable for harvesting until a period of 5 years with a full 10 years before the tree is in full bloom.  The factors we consider with Nerolii harvesting will directly impact on the quality of distilled oil. We work with local growers who take care to pluck each blossom when it is just starting to open, ensuring that buds are harvested only on warm sunny days to maintain freshness and ensure they are at their peak when the scents are more concentrated. Using lined baskets, the flowers cannot be damaged or bruised taking care not to mix with petioles and leaflets.  The harvest season takes place in April to early May (similar to our Moroccan Rose Damascena), which is most discernible for a week or so.  Our Neroli essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the fresh flowers with a low yield: 100 kilograms produces about 75 grams of essential oil.

Neroli was prized by the ancient egyptians and was also used as a remedy during the plague.
